El Nido Workshop

El Nido is an art therapy workshop directed by the Art Therapist with a Phd in Fine Art, Gemma Vega Alocén.  It meets the therapeutic requirements of providing a secure environment which is open to all those who wish to participate. You will be invited to an initial meeting with the Art Therapist to talk over whether it is a suitable way forward for you. The Art Therapist will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.

El Nido Workshop offers three types of treatment:

Individual sessions: for people wanting personal therapy in order to explore their difficulties through art. Duration is 60 minutes per session, on a weekly basis.

Group sessions: offers the possibility to express emotions within a group. Duration is 120 minutes per session on a weekly basis.

Open sessions: for people enduring chronic illness who are interested in using art as a support activity. Duration is 90 minutes per session on a weekly basis.

The sessions can carried out at El Nido Workshop, in different organisations or alternatively in the comfort of the client’s home.

Who is the Art Therapist ?

The Art Therapist is a professional person who bases their actions and experience on knowledge and practice of art as well as human development and psychological theories.

The art therapist endeavours to encourage artistic expression and promote the release of subconscious thoughts in order for them to be understood and interpreted. A therapeutic relationship is created between the person, their work and the art therapist. This enables the expression, exploration and resolution of troubled emotions. The results are seen in the improvement of the patients quality of life, in their self-esteem and in their interpersonal relations.

This work is developed by Gemma Vega Alocén, Art Therapist and Phd in Fine Art. Art Therapy sessions are carried out in the art therapist workshop El Nido as well as private and public centres.  Its role, like an art therapist, consists of accompanying the participants in their processes without interpreting the works.

The Art Therapist offers guidelines through a series of questions relating to the artworks created in the sessions. The Art Therapist supports the participant in order to establish their natural capacity to relate to themselves and the world around them in a more clear and positive manner.
